Let’s take a look at our two contestants: Polished Ceramic Capybara (Capybara) and Ripe Pickle Bat (Bat). Colorado Springs has a light-medium density of Hotspots that can be ideal for HNT mining. I chose to use two nearby Hotspots in Colorado Springs for our comparison. I have always liked to learn from examples, so in this post, we will compare the data from two similar Hotspots over the course of June and discuss why one of them made over $1,000 more than the other. I recently wrote a post that breaks down how mining payouts are structured, and in this post, I want to expand on the concepts with a case study of two real-world Hotspots. Many others, even in similar areas, will earn far less. However, only some Hotspots are earning these high numbers. Mining Helium has become quite lucrative lately, with some Hotspot owners earning well in excess of $1,000 in a month. By leveraging blockchain with its novel Proof of Coverage work model, the Helium network incentivizes people to purchase approved hardware to set up their own Hotspots and mine Helium tokens (HNT). Helium is doing a lot of things right in building a decentralized wireless network. The concept of a decentralized wireless network is not a novel one, however, an effective implementation of such a network has yet to be realized. Providing a decentralized wireless network to connected devices addresses several major issues that exist in the tech world like monopolistic wireless providers, invasive data collection, and lack of coverage availability.
